The First Wearable for Body-Oriented Therapy
Designed by neuroscientists and clinicians, BeSound aims to revolutionize body-oriented and mindfulness practices, offering therapists a powerful tool to enhance client engagement and deepen somatic exploration.
Instant Feedback
Help clients 'hear' their bodies, making internal states concrete and accessible
Non-Verbal Expression
Unlock new ways for clients to express and process emotions through movement
Engaging Experiences
Keep clients motivated with interactive, customizable sound environments
Mind-Body Integration
Seamlessly incorporate somatic awareness into various therapy modalities
Backed by research
Based on decades of gesture sonification research, BeSound was developed by Dr. Felix Schoeller, a senior research scientist at the Institute for Advanced Consciousness Studies in Santa Monica, CA. Initially designed to enhance live theatre, BeSound is now being explored in military research centers, clinical units, and neurophysiology labs for its applications in PTSD treatment and consciousness exploration.
We are releasing a beta version of the app to the public so that you may also experiment and share what you learn.

Enhancing Agency in PTSD
In this article, we explore the loss of agency in PTSD and its relevance in the development of symptoms. We propose an "enactive" perspective of PTSD, and discuss the potential of agency-based therapies and innovative technologies like gesture sonification (GS), which translates body movements into sounds to enhance the sense of agency.

Exploratory Study
In this within-subjects design, 17 healthy adults improvised movements with and without auditory feedback from motion sensors on wrists/ankles modulated by their gestures. Sonification significantly increased embodiment, pleasure, immersion, self-efficacy, and body awareness (all p<0.05). This highlights potential mental health applications, such as agency-based therapies.

Beyond Virtual Reality
Virtual reality exposure therapy (VRET) has emerged as a promising PTSD treatment. However, VRET interfaces decouple users from their physical surroundings, effectively dissociating them from their body and social environment. We suggest that the audio-motor coupling induced by gesture sonification may overcome some of these limitations.

After graduating from one of France's top engineering schools and a Ph.D. in biophysics, Vladimir decided to pursue psychiatry and is now deploying BeSound with body therapists in hospitals. Besides conducting the clinical trials and publishing research in top-tier journals, Vladimir is working with colleagues to bring BeSound to regions highly impacted by PTSD, such as Cambodia and Rwanda.
